Ready for a flower that refuses to behave?
Inspired by the graceful shape of the real Asian bleeding heart plant, this crochet version curves, cascades and brings a little drama wherever you place it.
Bleeding Heart Flower Meaning and Facts
Scientific name: Lamprocapnos spectabilis
Also known as: Asian bleeding heart, old-fashioned bleeding heart, lyre flower
Meaning: The bleeding heart’s symbolism is connected to deep devotion, compassion and a love that cannot be hidden.
Color meanings: Red symbolizes passionate love, pink represents tenderness, white suggests pure affection and blue adds mystery and individuality.
Suitable for: Romantic partners, close friends and anyone going through an emotional change or loss.
Occasions: Anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, remembrance gifts and heartfelt gestures.
Bouquet combinations: Pair with roses for romantic devotion, lily of the valley for returning happiness or cyclamen for lasting love.
Despite its detailed appearance, the flower is constructed from small, manageable pieces. Take it one heart at a time and watch the branch slowly come to life.
The finished branch features two rows of hanging heart shaped blooms, delicate white inner petals and wired leaves that can be shaped by hand. Display it on its own or crochet several branches to create a fuller botanical bouquet.
Enjoy step-by-step instructions, clear photos, and guidance that makes every stitch feel like second nature.
